Specialized Eye Care
The Specialty EyeCare Center was created to provide patients exactly what the name implies, specialty eye care. In addition to comprehensive eye exams to the general population, our goal is to offer care to individuals who require specialized care.
The office has been designed to allow easy access for patients with disabilities. The exam room has been modified to allow the wheelchair bound patient to receive a complete exam from their chair. The office has been equipped with the latest technology for the diagnoses of Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, and many other retinal conditions.
Specialty EyeCare Center is a bilingual facility, providing examinations, questionnaires, and patient education forms in both English and Spanish.

About Us
Dr. Lorino, Optometrist
Dr. Lourdes Lorino (formerly Dr. Bishop) is a native of Northwest Indiana. She was born in Gary and raised in East Chicago. After graduating from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor's in Biology, she continued her education at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois.
Upon graduating in 1996, she began her career in Optometry. Over the next 10 years, Dr. Lorino worked in various practice settings (private optometry, commercial optometry, and private ophthalmology), giving her the experience to offer specialized care and the knowledge needed to do so.
Dr. Lorino (born Lourdes Hernandez) is the daughter of Mexican-immigrant parents who taught her the value of hard work, respect, and education. She currently resides in Chesterton, Indiana with her husband and beautiful daughter. Member of the American Optometric Association and Indiana Optometric Association.
Michele Yoder, Office Manager
Michele Yoder is a resident of Valparaiso IN and has worked in an eye care setting as a Billing/Insurance specialist for 6 years. If you have any questions or concerns about your bill, you can call our office or email her.
Doug Berta, Optical Manager
Doug Berta has worked as an optician, lab technician, and manager in a commercial optical setting for 10 years. He is extremely knowledgeable in lenses, frames, and contact lenses. If you have any questions or problems with your glasses or contact lenses, you can call our office or email him.

Our practice provides comprehensive ocular examinations to all patients. Specialized care is also offered to persons with disabilities, the Spanish-speaking population, and the elderly.
